The CBS News poll, conducted from March 26 – 30 of 1,017 adults, revealed that 59 percent of respondents believe race relations are good. That result includes 60 percent of white respondents and 55 percent of African-American respondents.
Furthermore, a majority believe that there is still hope of eliminating racial discrimination altogether. While 46 percent of respondents said that racial bias and discrimination will always be a feature of American life, 52 percent said that they believe it is possible to eliminate that phenomenon entirely. In 1992, only 40 percent of those polled said the same.
On this question, however, there is a significant racial disparity. 61 percent of African-Americans polled said that there will always be racial discrimination while only 44 percent of whites agreed.
