Just a week after David Letterman announced his retirement, CBS officially announced the longtime hosts’ “Late Show” replacement: Stephen Colbert.
Colbert, who is still helming Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report” does not have an official start date for his new gig, but that’s only one burning questions fans have. Looming large is whether Colbert will tackle “Late Show” in his “Report” character, or play it straight. The press release announcing the hire didn’t say: “Specific creative elements, as well as the producers and locations for the Colbert-hosted ‘Late Show’ will be determined at a later date,” CBS says.
“Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career,” Colbert said in a statement. “I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead.”
